Contractors at the College

Portside Christian College is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and child-safe environment for our students, staff, contractors and visitors.

Contractors working at the College are required to complete an appropriate induction before commencing work, with induction and supervision requirements tailored to the nature of the work, associated risks and the contractor’s experience and responsibilities.

Contractors may include tradespeople undertaking maintenance, building, electrical or plumbing works, as well as specialist contractors such as allied health professionals, tutors and agency staff.

Before commencing work, contractors will be required to provide relevant documentation and complete the College’s Contractor Agreement and Induction process. Depending on the work being undertaken, this may include:

  • Evidence of current public liability insurance

  • Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) for high-risk construction work

  • Information regarding site-specific hazards and appropriate control measures

  • Work Health and Safety requirements and responsibilities

  • Emergency and evacuation procedures

  • Working with Children Check

  • Expectations regarding professional boundaries and interactions with students

  • Details of the College representative supervising or overseeing the work.

All contractors are required to sign in and out at College Reception and wear appropriate identification while on site. Contractors who do not hold a current Working with Children Check must be accompanied by a staff member whenever children are present.

These requirements help ensure that work undertaken at Portside is completed safely, responsibly and with the wellbeing and safety of our students as a priority.
