VET Pathways and Careers

A number of Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), listed below, offer a number of courses, over a variety of industry areas:

Real-World Learning. Real Opportunities

At Portside Christian College, our senior students can enhance their SACE by enrolling in Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs—nationally recognised courses that combine classroom learning with hands-on, real-world experience.

VET pathways are ideal for students who want to:

  • Gain practical skills

  • Explore career interests early

  • Open pathways to apprenticeships, traineeships, TAFE or university

These programs empower students to graduate with both their SACE and industry-recognised qualifications, setting them up for success beyond school.

VET Course Options 

Stage 1 (Year 11)

Students can begin building skills and earning SACE credits through courses such as:

  • Certificate II in Animal Care

  • Certificate II in Aeroskills

  • Certificate II in Construction Pathways

  • Certificate II in Electrotechnology

  • Certificate II in Engineering

  • Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics

  • Certificate II in Salon Assistant

  • …and many more

 

Stage 2 (Year 12)

Students can continue their pathway with advanced qualifications, including:

  • Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology

  • Certificate III in Business

  • Certificate III in Early Childhood Education & Care

  • Certificate III in Fitness

  • Certificate III in Hospitality

  • Certificate III in Individual Support

  • Certificate III in Screen & Media

  • Certificate III in Christian Ministry & Theology

 

Please note: Additional costs may apply for VET courses. Students are encouraged to speak with our Pathways Coordinator to explore options.

Faith-Based Pathway: Veta Morphus

Do you have a heart for ministry?

Students in Years 11 and 12 can explore their faith while gaining qualifications through Veta Morphus—a nationally accredited Christian leadership and discipleship program.

This unique pathway includes:

  • Retreats and mentoring

  • Ministry placements

  • Weekly peer groups

  • Practical faith-based learning

 

Students graduate with a Certificate III in Christian Ministry & Theology, while deepening their understanding of identity, purpose and leadership in Christ.

Career Development at Portside

We support students every step of the way with a comprehensive careers program:

Morrisby Career Assessment (Year 10)

An interactive online tool that helps students discover their strengths and explore future pathways, supported by personalised reports and one-on-one career counselling.

Work Experience

Year 10 students complete a one-week placement, gaining valuable insight into the workplace, building confidence, and developing employability skills.

Try-a-Trade Programs

Hands-on workshops introducing students to industries such as:

  • Construction

  • Plumbing

  • Automotive

  • Screen & Media

 

Career Connections Evening

Students connect with professionals from a wide range of industries—gaining real insights into career journeys and opportunities.

SACE & Careers Expo

Hosted at the College, this annual event connects students with:

  • Universities

  • Training providers

  • Employers

  • Subject teachers

 

Helping them make informed decisions about their future.

Unique Opportunities at Portside

In-House Early Learning Centre Advantage

Students studying Certificate III in Early Childhood Education & Care have the unique opportunity to complete work placements in our Early Learning Centre, gaining valuable, real-world experience in a supportive environment.
